Venue

GlobusWORLD 2012 is being held at Argonne National Laboratory in the TCS Conference Center (Building 240), just inside the main Argonne gates. Attendees coming from offsite will enter the Conference Center through the visitor entrance before the gate, without passing through security. Attendees staying onsite at the Argonne Guest House must request a gate pass — see “Lodging” below for details.

Lodging

We have reserved room blocks at the following hotels – call by March 26 to secure the discounted rate:

• Argonne Guest House (on Argonne campus, 10-15 minute walk from conference)
  • Rate: $70

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are staying at the Guest House, you must make the following arrangements due to the security requirements at Argonne:
    1. Secure a gate pass by completing this form — please enter “Ian Foster” as the Host of your visit and “Lynn Valentini” as your Administrative contact.
    2. If you are visiting from outside the U.S., you must request your gate pass by April 3 or there will not be time to process your security clearance.
    3. If you are not renting a car, we recommend United Limousine for transportation to/from Argonne. UL is a contracted provider and can assure your driver meets security clearance criteria. Other taxi or limo drivers may have difficulty getting onsite. UL also offers a discounted rate for travel to/from Argonne.

Directions

Argonne National Laboratory occupies 1,500 wooded acres about 25 miles southwest of Chicago (see map).

To reach Argonne from O’Hare International Airport, take I-294 south to I-55. Exit west on I-55 (toward St. Louis) and continue for about four miles to Cass Avenue. Exit south on Cass and turn right at the Argonne sign on Northgate Road, immediately south of I-55. Follow Northgate Road to the Argonne Information Center, turn right and proceed directly to the TCS Conference Center.

To reach Argonne from Midway Airport, take Cicero Avenue north to I-55. Enter I-55 south and continue for about 14 miles to Cass Avenue. Exit south on Cass and turn right at the Argonne sign on Northgate Road, immediately south of I-55. Follow Northgate Road to the Argonne Information Center, turn right and proceed directly to the TCS Conference Center.

To reach Argonne by public transportation, take the Metra train to the Westmont Metra station. PACE bus #715 provides connections between Westmont and Argonne only in the morning and evening, and only on weekdays; there is no weekend service. For details, please consult the PACE schedule.

Transportation

There are various car rental, limousine, bus and taxi services available for transportation to/from Argonne. In general, limousine service to Argonne from the airports tends to be less expensive than a taxi or car rental.

IMPORTANT: If you are staying at the Argonne Guest House, we recommend using United Limousine — other taxi or limo drivers could have security problems getting onsite.
